Wädenswil ZH, test planning, 2019-2020

On Lake Zurich, between the two centres of Horgen and Wädenswil, Au lies directly on the railway and the lakeside road. While the Linse between the two traffic lines is currently sparsely developed, the Seestrasse is to become the future development edge of Au and the Linse a transition zone to the fen of the peninsula. The lakeside road is therefore to be read as a natural promenade. In order to guarantee the connection and the view to the Zimmerberg, the dense, slope-side development is formulated in a permeable way. The linear orientation of the site is broken at four points, which allow for crossings of the lake road and railway line, as well as connections up the slope.

The railway station as one of these 4 caesurae becomes the hinge that bundles all non-motorized traffic routes and marks the arrival in the natural area Au as an open space. A small square is formed across the Seestrasse, which can temporarily take on an urban character through temporary uses.
